🏴 Science Media Centre Internship programme — Science Media Centre
Who: Science Media Centre Internship
What: The Science Media Centre (SMC) is an independent press office for science, which works on some of the most controversial topics around. We have a very popular internship programme and many of our interns have gone on to work in science communications or media. Applications are now open for internships from January 2022 – July 2022.
We’re a small team of nine permanent staff, and our interns provide invaluable support and get to see everything that we work on and do. The internship mainly involves research and administrative tasks, and is most suitable for final-year undergrads, postgrad students or those looking for an early-stage career change. We have interns with us all year, with each working for four weeks. Our interns work full-time 35-hour weeks, and we pay the London Living Wage (currently £10.85/hour).

🏴 Space Expert — National Space Centre

What: We are looking to recruit a confident, outgoing individual to join the National Space Centre and provide in-house space expertise and knowledge for the Discovery and Marketing teams. The varied and interesting role includes: providing monthly space updates, fact checking, supporting outreach events and activities, and acting as an space spokesperson for media requests and an expert speaker for corporate events where necessary. The successful candidate will be conduit between industry and academia, help answer online space questions and booking guest speakers.
The successful candidate will ideally have a MPhys / Masters / PhD in science, experience in a role that includes science communication / public engagement, and have expertise in exploration, astronomy or satellite applications, with a good general knowledge across the space science field. They will be passionate about communicating space related news and information, be able to produce factually accurate and well written work, suitable for a range of audiences, and be confident when presenting to a live audience and media interviews.
